B’lay there, tis here was a joy o’ me heart. Yarr, ye benefit gatherin’ fer San Pedro Town’s Channel Street Skatepark. Ye fifth one so far and by far ye biggest. ‘Tis ‘ere gatherin’ was brought to ye by THE RISE AND THE FALL and ye bucko’s at ye SAN PEDRO SKATEPARK ASSOCIATION wit’ help from ye Cap’n himself. ‘Tis gatherin’ got started a lil late due to ye late arrival o’ the opening band, THE RED ONIONS, wit’ no warnin’ or distress signals ye club was at a standstill, ehhh? Fer some scurvy reason ye club didn’t want to let ye ship hands in until the opening band was set up and ready to play, arrgh! Ye line was huge and wrapped around ye corner. By the time THE RED ONIONS hit the stage, ye ship hands began to trickle in slowly. Yarr, because o’ tis there was a small crowd of lassies to see the ONIONS brand o’ hyper activities. Garr … it seemed like the line outside ye club was not movin’ and ye crowd was beginnin’ to squall. THE RED ONIONS cap’n sang most of their shanties on the dance floor below ye stage and taunted and mingled with ye lassies up front. Shiver me soul, talk about in yer face! These Hispanic scurvy dogs from Gardena town did as much as ye could to stir ye small crowd. Buccaneer approved, me hearties, the ship hands still in line outside would have approved also if ye could o’ seen or heard ‘em. Ye club was full of free skateboard prizes and ye like and ye young lassies wer eating it up! Thanks to ye good mates at: Independent, I Path, Thrasher Magazine, Volcom, Anti-Hero, Girl/Chocolate, Santa Cruz & other scurvy merchants. Up next was ye throwin’ o’ skateboard booty into ye sea o’ lassies by me fine outspoken mate, Vin (Salty) Dog. Also helpin’ out was Peg Leg Ed, eeee! Lots of tusslin’ and grabbin’ fer ye skateboard booty, ye lads were hasty vultures, they were! Next up was THE VOIDS, fronted by a young debonair wench with a sharp tongue, spitting out slogans o’ mutiny. Shipmates by the score and foc’s’le hands standin’ by to carry out her slightest wish. THE VOIDS got ye crowd charted in a circling motion on ye dance floor with a hearty vengeance and handsomely exited ye stage. Gangway! Vin Dog takes the stage again to throw out more free skateboard booty to the jolly masses below, me bucko’s. These lassies wer dyin’ to get their hands on this booty, I tell ya. Yo-ho-ho, up next came TOYS THAT KILL, the local sea rats from this seaport town o’ ‘Pedro. These rats continued ye barrage o’ noise and treated ye local ship hands to a myriad of classic punk shanties and got ‘em sweatin’ to ye beat, me hearties. These sea rats be one o’ me favorites. More skate booty giveaways plus ye signed JFA skateboard thrown into ye sea o’ vultures, yarr! Garr! Garr! Garr! Next up was JFA (JODY FOSTER’S ARMY), these barren sandy region inhabitants from yester year. Back from ye dreaded desert’s o’ Arizona, now living near ye cool sea’s o’ Huntington Beach. These ol’ skate rats hoisted the Jolly Roger and plundered through an energetic boisterous set that reminded me o’ the “good ol’ days” o' bouncerless gigs and mutiny. Yar, lassies wer skankin’ on the plank only to dive into oblivion with a smile only to get up and do it all over again, arrgh, true pillaging. JFA played all the ol’ shanties ye wanted to hear except “Lowrider,” arrgh! Ye lassies went nuts when they played “Beach Blanket Bongout,” ehhh? “Skateboard we do?,” “Plunder & Pillage We Do” be more like it matey’s. JFA wer great mates and all ye bands played fer free fer the cause. Much needed money was raised for ye skatepark and all the lassies went home happy with a little free skate loot in hand. All ye bands wer great and a very energetic crowd indeed. ‘Tis might well be ye Pedro show o’ the year, me hearties. ...
